Measure each step for what it is.
| Signal | What it tells you | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Search impressions | Your content appeared in the measured search results. | That someone visited, enquired or became a customer. |
| Search clicks | A search result generated a recorded click. | That the visit was useful or led to a sale. |
| A contact-button click | A person interacted with a contact option. | That a form was submitted or a call connected. |
| A saved enquiry | A request was durably recorded with a reference. | That it is genuine, qualified or accepted work. |
| A qualified opportunity | The request meets the business’s agreed criteria. | That a quote was accepted or revenue collected. |
Define a useful enquiry together.
A qualified enquiry might need the right service, a workable location, a genuine requirement and usable contact details. The definition belongs to the business. It should be agreed before a dashboard labels every submission a lead.
Keep spam, duplicates, internal tests and existing-customer messages separate where those distinctions affect reporting. Record the outcome of follow-up so that the website’s contribution can be assessed beyond the initial form.
Capture the starting point.
Before changing the site, record which measurement tools are available, what they collect and whether the important events work. A period with broken tracking is not a reliable baseline.
- Choose comparable dates, markets and device segments.
- Separate branded and non-branded search where the data supports it.
- Note website changes, campaigns and collection gaps.
- Keep confirmed events separate from estimated outcomes.
- Record the time and source for material conclusions.
When data is sparse, a short descriptive review can be more honest than a large percentage change.
Keep attribution honest.
A request can retain the page, referrer or campaign parameters available at submission, subject to the actual privacy choices and implementation. Those details help explain a journey but do not reveal every earlier interaction.
Aggregate search query reports do not establish the exact search term used by a particular person who submitted a form. Avoid attaching private customer information to analytics events or inventing a keyword when it is unknown.
Turn the report into the next action.
A useful review identifies a small number of changes to make next. For each, write down the observation, the proposed explanation, the business benefit and the check that will show whether the change helped.
Example: an important service page gets relevant visits but its request form fails on mobile. Fix and verify the form first; then review saved enquiries and their quality over a comparable period.
This is an illustrative decision, not a measured result for Dallas SEO or a client. Search visibility, response handling and service delivery all affect the final business outcome.
